Team GBR dominates 13th WUC Rowing

The 13th FISU World University Rowing Championship in Gravelines, France came to a close on Sunday, 14 September, 2014. 335 athletes representing 33 nations participated in the event, which is a new participation record for this FISU championship.

Thirteen races were scheduled the final day on the sunny basin of the ‘PArc’ on the banks of the river Aa. In the end, two countries have earned the lion’s share of hardware in monopolizing four gold medals each, i.e. Great Britain, which finished first in the medal tally of this championship with the British rowers pocketing eight medals (4 gold, 1 silver & 3 bronze) and Poland with six medals (4 gold, 1 silver & 1 bronze). Following behind are Hungary (2 gold & 2 silver), Germany (2 gold & 1 bronze) and host country France which won five medals (1 gold, 2 silver & 3 bronze). The other countries that saw their student-athletes mount the medal podium are Italy, Czech Republic, Canada, Belarus, South Africa, Mexico, Australia and the Netherlands.

The event was broadcast live on Dailymotion and more than 15,000 unique visitors followed the competition on the web during the two days of broadcasting.

The next edition (14th) of this FISU World University Championship will be held in Poznan (Poland) in 2016.
