His lasting contribution to university sports through his role as Secretary General of the Gwangju 2015 Summer Universiade will be remembered.

The International University Sports Federation is deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. Yoon-suk Kim, who departed this life peacefully on April 25, 2025, at the age of 72.

“It was with great shock and sadness that I heard the news of the death of our long-time Korean friend and supporter, Yoon-suk Kim, reacted FISU President, Leonz Eder (here with FISU former Secretary General and CEO, Eric Saintrond and Yoon-suk Kim. As Secretary General of the Organising Committee, Yoon-suk Kim played a key role in making the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju an outstanding success, both in terms of sport and culture. Furthermore, he always had the best interests of FISU in mind and repeatedly sought to support us. This was especially true as a driving force behind the Bidding Committee for the Chungcheong 2027 FISU World University Games Summer. His passion for university sports, but above all a deep friendship, will remain in my lasting, grateful memory. “


 

Mr Kim is survived by his beloved wife and two cherished daughters, who will forever hold his memory in their hearts. A funeral service to honour his life will be held with family and close friends in attendance.
