For two years, Innocent Kanyala and Mirriam Inutu Libati, have been instrumental in fostering the growth of university sports in Zambia. Through their involvement in the FISU Student Ambassador (FSA) Programme, they have initiated transformative projects and inspired a new wave of leadership and volunteerism.
The duo was nominated by former FISU Student Ambassador Mofat Mwandila, who saw their potential to lead and inspire others in university sports. With the support of the Zambia University Sports Association (ZUSA), they have forged a strong relationship, sharing a collective vision of empowering students through sports and volunteering.
Achievements in 2023
Their first year as student ambassadors was marked by impactful initiatives that engaged students and communities:
- Get Fit Campaigns: They launched campaigns at Copperbelt University and established the Humanities Fitness Squad at the University of Zambia.
- International Day of University Sport (IDUS): Organised a community-focused event at the University of Zambia, bringing together students, staff, and locals.

Mirriam’s Growth as an athlete and leader
Mirriam Inutu Libati’s experience in the FISU Springboard Programme 2024, under the mentorship of Arnaud Richard, deepened her understanding of sports management and leadership. Her athletic journey began with the athletics team at the Copperbelt University, where she discovered a passion for powerlifting and CrossFit. Guided by her coach, Ruth Ellie Tembo, Mirriam continues to inspire others with her commitment to fitness and personal growth.

In 2023, during the FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy, Mirriam showcased her enthusiasm for fitness by leading a short aerobics session, encouraging others to embrace an active lifestyle. Additionally, her drive to promote CrossFit at Copperbelt University led to the creation of a CrossFit club, providing students with a platform to explore this dynamic sport.
