Healthy Campus celebrates 150 university registrations!

12 July 2024

The Healthy Campus programme has reached an impressive milestone, enrolling 150 universities from over 42 countries across five continents. The 150th registration is the Università degli Studi di Napoli.

The Healthy Campus programme operates under the belief that universities should foster an environment that encourages healthy and sustainable lifestyles. It promotes daily access and opportunities for physical activity, health, and nutrition as integral parts of campus life. Since its founding in 1949, FISU has been a key driver in expanding the role and reach of university sports globally. The Healthy Campus programme further extends FISU’s social responsibility, reaching a larger number of students, professors, university employees and local community stakeholders.

A cross-cutting approach

Leonz Eder, FISU President, highlights: “Universities have a unique responsibility to create an environment that nurtures both the physical and mental well-being of their communities. The Healthy Campus programme embodies this responsibility, offering comprehensive resources and support to ensure health and sustainability are at the core of university life.”

To meet the diverse demands of campus communities, the program has established a cross-cutting approach that includes not only physical activity but also healthy campus management, mental and social health, nutrition, disease prevention, risk behavior, environment, social responsibility, and sustainability. Through the Healthy Campus programme, universities embed concrete health and wellness resources into all aspects of campus life and culture.

Physical and mental well-being are at the core of the Healthy Campus programme.

The Healthy Campus programme is built on a bespoke digital platform designed to help universities track and improve the health and well-being of their students and staff. The program’s success is driven by a global network of thirty world experts in student health, providing a unique opportunity for universities to share knowledge, expertise, best practices, and insights.

Growing participation and impact

Currently, 73 universities are certified under the Healthy Campus programme, which continues to inspire institutional and operational representatives dedicated to the well-being of their campus communities. The growing number of registrations highlights the program’s success and the increasing commitment of universities to fostering a healthier and more supportive campus environment.

Eric Saintrond, CEO and Secretary General of FISU, states, “The certification of 73 universities under the Healthy Campus programme is a testament to the dedication and commitment of institutions worldwide to enhance the health and well-being of their communities. Each new registration is a step towards a global culture of health, sports and sustainability on university campuses.”

The programme welcomes it’s 150th registrar, the Università degli Studi di Napoli from Italy, the city that proudly hosted the FISU Universiade in 2019.
