Climate change: FISU 4-step plan toolkit for members now available

5 June 2024

5 June is World Environment Day. The perfect occasion for the International University Sport Federation to provide its members with a guide to tackle climate change.

Happy World Environment Day! Of course, tackling climate change is something we must do all year round, every year, but this sort of celebrations helps shine a light on this very important cause.

Reduce carbon emissions

The International University Sports Federation is committed to make a difference. Our pledge: to reduce carbon emissions by 50% in 2030 and reach net zero by 2040.

FISU has been a dedicated signatory of the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework since 2022, a framework founded by United Nations Climate Change designed for sports organisations and stakeholders in the sport sector to provide support in achieving global climate change goals. Using this framework, FISU hopes that its members can commit to take action and help reduce global threats posed by climate change.

Three categories

FISU is committed to act in three ways: as an organisation, as the leader of the University Sport Movement and as the owner of University Sports events. This step falls into the three categories: as an organisation, we show the way, as a leader we embark our members on that same journey and as an owner we encourage the behavioural changes be implemented throughout our activities and the activities of our members.

New page, new toolkit

Today, we are launching a specific sustainability page on our website and on this page, you will be able to download a brand new toolkit: “4-step plan to tackling climate change”. It is a comprehensive guide to our members to follow our footsteps and become signatories of the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework.

Go and check it out, spread the word, encourage your National University Sports Federation to start walking the walk with us and start to concretely tackle climate change.
