12 FISU finswimming records beaten in Pereira!

The Aquatic Sports Village in Pereira held thrilling competitions over two days.

The first ever FISU World Championship hosted by Colombia was showered by success, not only in the water, but also around, as 113 student-athetes were bathed in local culture and smiles.

The olympic swimming-pool of the Aquatic Sports Village in Pereira was as busy as a beehive during the two days of competition, with preliminary races in the morning and finals in the afternoon, all streamed live on FISU.tv

“I had never been to this region before, admitted FISU Executive Committee Member Emiliano Ojea (left on the picture). Pereira and Colombia have done a marvelous job in organising their first ever FISU World University Championship. Well done!”

Over the two afternoons of finals, 22 titles were distributed for grabs in all the different disciplines – Apnea, BiFin and Surface – genders and distances. And the impressive student-athletes managed to beat none less than 12 FISU records! You can find all results here.

Italy’s Valter Prampolini, Viola Magoga, Rebecca Scagnetto and Laura Franchini, Egypt’s Ahmed Radwan, Germany’s Johanna Katerina Schikora, Japan’s Nana Takatsu, Chonese Tapei’s Ru-yi Lee, as well as Slovakia’s Zuzana Hraskova, Belgium’s Elise Croes, Czechia’s Filip Latal and Colombia’s Juan Sebastian Giraldo Cespedes were all amongst the stars that shone during this exciting competition.

Sixteen different nations succeeded in climbing on the podium at least once during the two days of competitions of the Pereira 2024 FISU World University Championship Finswimming. At the top of the medal table, we find Italy with six golds, two silver and five bronze. The host nation, Colombia, came second, with five gold, one silver and two bronze and finally Germany completes the top trio with three gold medals.

Everyone will go home with warm memories of a great event, whether member of the public, the organisation or the competitors. Thank you Pereira!
