Heads of Delegation Meeting: Chengdu is ready!

28 March 2023

Delegations from around the world are participating in the Head of Delegations meeting (HoD) from 27 March–1 April in the Chinese city of Chengdu in advance of the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games.

A total of 79 delegations are attending the meeting, with 33 present on site and 46 assisting remotely.

FISU acting President Leonz Eder heartfully thanked the organising committee and the government authorities for the extraordinary work and hospitality.

“The athletes are the ones who will benefit (…). But our common mission is not just to ensure that the athletes are able to give their best performances. It is of course to ensure that they have the opportunity to grow as people, to achieve more of their full potential and to do all this as part of a peaceful and respectful celebration,” he said in his welcome remarks.

During the first part of the meeting, members of the organising committee briefed the delegates about the various operations, processes and rules that will be implemented for the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games – covering topics such as accreditation, visa delivery, arrivals and departures, transportation, security, finances, doping controls, catering, medical services, opening and closing ceremonies, media, ticketing, cultural activities and delegation services.

The delegates also visited some of the main venues to be used for the event. Visits will continue in the coming day. The HoD meeting will then culminate with the team draw, followed by various cultural activities.

Delegates and FISU staff expressed very positive impressions after what they heard and saw, agreeing with the organising committee that “Chengdu is ready”!

The Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games will take place from 28 July to 8 August.
