FISU’s National University Sports Federations meet, Leonz Eder to remain Acting President

19 December 2022

On 17 December 2022, the International University Sports Federation (FISU) held an online meeting for many of its National University Sports Federations. During the meeting, FISU Acting President Leonz Eder (picture) provided a report on recent FISU activities, including preparations for the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games, due to begin in January.

The meeting also considered the provisions for the presidency of FISU. Prior to the meeting, elected FISU President Oleg Matytsin had submitted an update to the FISU Executive Committee. Matytsin informed the Executive Committee that, despite the ending of sanctions imposed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in the WADA v. RUSADA case, he would continue to delegate the functions of the presidency to the FISU First Vice-President and Acting President, Leonz Eder. Mr Eder has successfully fulfilled these functions since March 2021.

Mr Matytsin pointed to the continued importance of maintaining and promoting an atmosphere of constructive joint work for the benefit of the FISU family, as did Mr Eder. Any changes to the future provisions for the presidency of FISU will be subject to the consideration of the FISU Executive Committee.
