A brand new track awaits runners of the 2022 FISU World University Championship Cross Country

10 March 2022

The 2022 FISU World University Championship Cross Country will take place on Saturday on the campus of the University of Aveiro, in Portugal. Students athletes from 20 different countries will run in an area entirely restored for the occasion.

“Organizing this competition gave us the opportunity to rehabilitate a degraded area of the university campus and provide the student athletes with a high-quality track that meets the FISU and World Athletics criteria,” said Manuel Senos Matias, pro-rector dedicated to the area of sports at the University of Aveiro (UA).

“In the future, both students and the local community will benefit from this unique space next to the Ria de Aveiro, where they can practice sports and at the same time enjoy all its fauna and flora,” he added.

The University of Aveiro sees sport as an important element for the multifaceted training and integral development of students.

Manuel Senos Matias insists that with students from 90 different nationalities registered at the University, sport is the best way for them to interconnect.

FISU Acting President Leonz Eder agrees. “Beyond the competition, we urge all the participants in the FISU World University Championships to take full advantage of such a moment and to return home with memories that will last a lifetime and perhaps even some new friends from faraway places,” he said.
