30 August 2021

The competition schedule of the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games is now available. The major international summer event will be held on 26 June to 7 July 2022 in Chengdu (CHN).

The competition schedule set the days and venues of all 18 sport disciplines that will take place over the period. For 12 days, student-athletes from all over the world will compete for 269 gold medals in artistic gymnastics, swimming, badminton, athletics, fencing, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, judo, rowing, shooting sport, archery, water polo, taekwondo, diving, tennis, wushu and rhythmic gymnastics. Of these medals, 50 are in athletics, and 42 are in swimming. Basketball, volleyball and water polo have two gold medals each.

The competition of water polo runs throughout the whole period of the FISU Games and will begin one day before the opening ceremony to be able to accommodate the length of the competition. This is in contrast with artistic gymnastics and rowing which run for the shortest period of only 3 competition days.

One day to look out for will be the Saturday 2 July 2022, where a total of 50 gold medals will be awarded that day in various disciplines, including 10 in athletics.

The Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games will be a great come back for the summer editions of the games after a postponement due to the pandemic. The event was originally supposed to be held in 2021 but following a joint decision between FISU and the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Organising Committee, the decision was taken to postpone the event to 2022 keeping the same naming.
