Lucerne 2021 Winter Universiade looking for international volunteers

27 May 2021

Preparations for the Lucerne 2021 Winter Universiade are in full steam ahead, and the organisers are looking for help from around to world to help them in making sure the event runs smoothly. Volunteers are at the heart of FISU events, and they are the force that helps make these events work as precisely as a swiss clock.

On 11-21 December 2021, the Winter Universiade will take place in Lucerne, which will be Switzerland’s fifth time hosting the FISU Games. Indeed, the Swiss alps have hosted the Winter Universiade two times in Davos in 1930 and 1947, St-Moritz in 1935 and Villars in 1962.

In order to organise this event, the Organising Committee’s goal is to find 3’800 volunteers to help out in many areas such as competition, ceremonies, catering or construction to name just a few examples.

The recruitment campaign has already started and international volunteers can now also register on the Swiss Volunteer platform.

This experience can offer a glimpse behind the scenes at a huge sporting event and is an opportunity to develop a large international network of new contacts. In addition, it is also possible to register as long-term volunteers in exchange for a small salary. More information regarding the job description can be found here.

“A sports event of this magnitude depends on the commitment of the volunteers, who also play a very important role as a link to our guests from over 50 nations,” explains Managing Director Urs Hunkeler. “After all the things we have missed out on in recent times, volunteering at the Lucerne 2021 Winter Universiade is a great opportunity to put yourself back at the heart of the action and experience all of the emotions up close.”
