Preparatory work for Chengdu 2021 in full swing

All 49 venues of the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games will be put to the test in April, and construction and preparation is therefore in full swing currently.

Among the 13 newly-built venues, construction work of the Longquan High School Gymnasium, the Polus International College Gymnasium, the Xindu Xiangcheng Sports Centre Gymnasium and the Xindu Xiangcheng Sports Centre Natatorium has already been finished. At another nine venues, the main structures have been completed follow-up projects are in progress.

As for the 36 renovated venues, the National Key Table Tennis Training School, the Chengdu University Stadium, the Huaxi Campus Gymnasium, the Sichuan University, the Qingbaijiang Sports Centre Gymnasium, the Tanghu Middle School Stadium, and the Modern Pentathlon Centre Equestrian Arena have been completed.

 

Renovation of the other venues will now enter an accelerated phase to be completed by the end of April 2021.

 

The Chengdu Open Air Music Park has been confirmed as the venue for the closing ceremony of the World University Games.

 

Recently, the Department of Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Executive Committee of Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games made a detailed onsite report to the FISU Summer Games deaprtment, on the construction of the venues for the opening and closing ceremonies.

 

The report included the layout planning of VIP areas, traffic management routes for various groups as well as the process design of the opening ceremony.

Earlier, in December 2020, the Executive Committee of Chengdu 2021 utilised the Xipu Campus Gymnasium, Southwest Jiaotong University, as a demonstration venue to show how the venue operations would be conducted under different scenarios.

 

This was to put in place a common operation plan available for all the venues of the World University Games to use.
