Big success for the Third Virtual Forum FISU America in Costa Rica

20 November 2020

COSTA RICA- As the current situation all around the globe continues, FISU America continues to support sporting events that aim to strengthen and empower the university sports community during these times. From 16-18 November, the Executive Committee of FISU America held the Third Virtual Forum FISU America Costa Rica 2020. This would be the first time that a Central American country hosted this event, with a major focus on health for students.

“Costa Rica feels very satisfied to be able to unite the community and the family of continental university sport and beyond, because we will have European and African representatives in the participation,” said Ms. Rosaura Méndez— Executive Director of the FISU America Forum and FISU Executive Committee Member.

“This is a meeting to continue strengthening sports in the region, but above all to indicate that the COVID-19 pandemic does not defeat university sports. We are also very pleased with the number of university students who have signed up because they really are the future. We must work together with them to make all the proposals for new policies and actions for the development of university sports,” she said.

The Forum, sponsored by FISU America, FEDEU of Costa Rica and Tecnologico de Costa Rica, covered different topics such as well-being, physical health, mental health, social cooperation, leadership, volunteering and gender equality in sports. In addition, there was an emphasis on female leadership in sports, academic exchange between countries and sport for social transformation.

Targeted for students, athletes, teachers, coaches, sports leaders and many more, this was just a glimpse of the fruitful discussions to come before Costa Rica takes the stage once again for the 2022 FISU World Forum in April 2022.
