MOSCOW – A FISU delegation, led by Director of the Summer World University Games Marc Vandenplas, visited Moscow and Ekaterinburg ahead of the 2023 edition of the event.

This inspection visit, more than three years in advance of the event, focused on core areas like accommodation, accreditation and volunteer management among others.

The first day of the visit was spent in Moscow, as the FISU delegation visited the office of the Ekaterinburg 2023 Executive Direction and studied a detailed report of the Clients’ Services Division. There was also a working meeting with Svetlana Mironova, Director of the Department for Coordinatination ofMajor International Events of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation. The meeting was attended by Sergey Seyranov, President of the Russian Student Sports Union (RSSU) and Alexander Chernov, General Director of the ANO Executive Direction of Ekaterinburg 2023.

“This is our third inspection visit, and every time we note with satisfaction the progress in all functional areas,” said Marc Vandenplas. “We have managed to build an efficient interaction with our Organising Committeecolleagues based on transparent and direct communication.”

Vandenplas also stressed on the challenges. “Of course, we understand how challenging the task is,” he said. “After all, it usually takes six years to prepare the Games, but in this case we have exactly half the time.”

“But we have had two successful Universiades in Russia,” he continued. “We are familiar with the work and professional skills of our Russian colleagues, therefore we believe in a successful edition of the Summer World University Games in Ekaterinburg in 2023.”

In the coming days, the FISU delegation will continue the inspection visit with a detailed program in the host city of Ekaterinburg.
