Lucerne 2021 reveal coming this Tuesday

21 January 2020

LUCERNE – With exactly 1 year to go for the start of the Lucerne 2021 Winter Universiade, or the World University Games, the mascot will be presented to the public today in this picturesque city of Central Switzerland.

In true Swiss style, the mascot design has been chosen from among the designs submitting by four students at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. A seven-member jury has decided the winning entry and this mascot will make its first public appearance on 21 January 2020, exactly one year before the opening ceremony takes place.

In a day full of excitement and activities, the mascot will arrive on the shores of the Lucerne harbour by ship, ready to meet and greet the public. Following this, a mascot naming contest will be officially announced, for the ‘baptism’ of the prime ambassador of the 30th Winter Universiade.

The mascot will make its way to Zug later in the day for Swiss League Ice Hockey games. The agenda for the day also includes an important discussion on dual careers for athletes, as FISU’s prime objective is to be the bridge between education and sport for university athletes.
