Second inspection visit to Ekaterinburg a success

EKATERINBURG, Russia – The second inspection visit of the FISU Summer Universiade team to Ekaterinburg, the host city of the 2023 Summer Universiade, was successfully completed. The programme of the inspection visit led by FISU Summer Universiade Director Marc Vandenplas included a check of SK ‘Youth’ and SK ‘Dynamo’ Sports Complexes, as well as an acquaintance with the complex of the Golf Academy.

However, the main attention of FISU representatives was given to the organization of the Athletes’ Village. The Village is one of the key facilities of the Universiade, a residential and administrative information center for athletes and delegations during the Games. A seminar was held at the residence of the Governor of the Sverdlovsk region, in which representatives of all relevant departments and services of Ekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk region took part. 

During the seminar, the Athletes’ Village concept was described in detail – what it represents and how it will work, including all operational activities of the Village.

“This information is important for all those who will be involved in organising and hosting the Universiade,” said Brian Carrer, coordinator of the FISU Summer Universiade Department. “Other topical issues related to preparation for the Universiade were also a focus of this meeting and were discussed with the Organising Committee.” 

“We have little time left, only three years and eight months,” said Marc Vandenplas. “During this period, they (OC) need to build the Athletes’ Village. We suggested organising a seminar and telling them how to design it so that the facility fully meets the requirements of FISU.”

 
“In addition, we initiated a discussion of the structure of the organising committee; how the powers and responsibilities in the organising committee should be distributed,” added Vandenplas.
