Upcoming university Alpine Ski event helps rebuild Italy’s Veneto Region

26 November 2018

While heavy rains and winds lashed across Italy in recent weeks causing massive damage in areas, the spirit of university sport is going strong in the Veneto. For the region in Italy’s northeastern corner in the heart of the Dolomites that means citizens and students alike are rebuilding and repairing for the Winter National University Championship “Open Alpine Ski” in this territory, which will be held 17-19 December.

The event, organised by Centro Universitario Sportivo Venezia, will be held in Civetta Comprensorio. With the region hit by devastating weather conditions, visiting for this outstanding  competition is a way to bring back both the environment and economy.

“Culture is fragile. Helping to promote this event is important not just for tourism, but to protest the spiritual connection that sport and the active lifestyle offers to the people of Veneto” FISU Secretary General Eric Saintrond said.

Who can participate? Students who are enrolled at a university or similar institution whose academic status is recognized by the competent academic authorities of their country, and all 2018 graduates. All competitors must be born between 1 January 1991 and 31 December 2001.

What are the registration deadlines? For foreign athletes: the individual entries have to be filled on FIS forms and be sent no later than 15th of December to CUS Venezia to the e-mail address eventi@cusvenezia.it.  For Italian athletes, individual entries must be sent by the CUS to the FISI Regional Committees no later than 13 December.
