Meet FISU’s Young Reporters for Krasnoyarsk 2019

Six aspiring journalists will join FISU for the
first ever Winter Universiade edition
of the Young Reporters Programme

The International University Sports Federation proudly announces the six successful applicants of the 5th FISU Young Reporters Programme at the 29th Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk selected by the FISU Media & Communication Committee Chaired by Senior Executive Committee Member Verena Burk.

“FISU is delighted to host the Young Reporters Programme for the first time at a Winter Universiade. The applications of the selected international YR were at a high level and we are convinced that we have found promising candidates with high motivation and outstanding skills,” Verena Burk commented.

The coming edition’s Young Reporters once again come from five different continents. For the first time ever, candidates from the United Kingdom and from Nepal have been selected to travel to a Universiade as YRP participants. These included, 54 aspiring journalists from 29 countries have been selected to join the  aspiring journalists to join the programme through five editions.

Laykin Rudolph (RSA): “Dreams do come true! I am so grateful to have been chosen for the 5th FISU Young Reporters Programme. To be selected for this prestigious programme is a huge honour. I am already counting the days until the 29th Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk. The YRP would afford me the opportunity to further advance my journalistic skills and grow as a Young Reporter. I am absolutely certain this programme will be a great asset to my career as I have a willingness to learn new things and develop myself. I truly cannot wait to make my way to Siberia and experience the ‘real winter’.”

James Oana (AUS): “Truly blessed. Being selected to the FISU Young Reporters Programme is honestly something special. That instant when I found out, was something that I will savour for the rest of my days. That pure elation still puts a smile on my face just thinking about it. My reaction to reading the news was quite muted, it was more a stunned silence, an ‘I can’t believe this has happened’ moment. Going to Siberia is going to be like nothing else I’ve experienced. Sport has been such a big part of my life and getting to experience an event of this magnitude will be a dream come true. I cannot wait to get stuck in and just absorb as much knowledge as possible, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I do not plan on having any regrets at the end of the event. It looks like my decision to grow a beard is a warm and smart one!”

Marilyne Plante (CAN): “My career in sports journalism has been enhanced by my selection in the FISU Young Reporters Programme. I used to work at a local radio, and now I am going to gain international experience. I will learn many new things, from interview to publishing skills. I am honored to be part of this edition. When I learned that I was selected for this amazing experience, my first reaction was to re-read the email simply to make sure I understood it correctly. Yes, I had really been selected. I then phoned my loved ones to tell them how happy I was about the news.”

Peter Lynch (GBR): “I am both extremely honoured and excited to be heading to Krasnoyarsk for the 29th Winter Universiade, and hugely look forward to what the FISU Young Reporters Programme has in store. It’s a fantastic feeling to be selected from such a large group of applicants, and I am thrilled to be able to participate in this experience with others who share similar skills and aspirations. This will be my first time travelling to Russia, and so I look forward to experiencing a vastly different culture, while the prospect of meeting new people and trying new things also excites me.”

Danielle Allentuck (USA): “I’ve never been to Siberia, or traveled internationally by myself, so I think it will be very cool to experience a different culture and meet people from across the world. I’m looking forward to covering the Winter Universiade, working with the other Young Reporters, and learning from the training sessions. I’m so excited and so honored to be selected to this programme. I can’t wait to meet everyone!”

Sonita Aryal (NEP): “I was really excited about the since I have always been passionate about journalism and travelling to new places and interacting with new people. I am sure that I will get to learn a lot of new things from this programme. I hope to meet young and energetic journalists from different countries there. Getting to know them, and the way they do sports reporting will teach me a lot.”
