MACEIO – With the opening ceremony, the second International University Beach Games in Brazil officially began. This edition brings together 10 countries with 350 students-athletes competing in beach handball, beach soccer, beach volleyball and beach tennis. The competition will run until 1 April.

The president of the Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU) and FISU vice-president Luciano Cabral said: “We are here to enjoy these Beach Games with the 350 athletes who are heroes of university sports for us. The objective is to generate a quality competition, where the different universities of the world meet to develop beach sports, which have a lot of potential to be worked alongside what the International Olympic Committee proposes.”

Alim Maluf Neto, CBDU Vice-President and President of FISU America, showed himself “very enthusiastic with the participation of FISU America’s member countries. All delegations increased in quantity and quality. This shows the development of the university sport in this region.”
