#WUAlmaty2017 – Gala ends successful Figure Skating Competition

5 February 2017

ALMATY – It’s a tradition at the Winter Universiade to end the figure skating competition with a Gala featuring the medallists of the competition and some other high ranked skaters. As usual, it was a stellar performance of the athletes in a dazzling show of colour and light. And all this action in front of full house, some 10,000 spectators.

Men’s WU gold medallist and Kazakh skater, the 2014 Sochi OWG bronze winner Denis Ten’s performance was one of the highlights of the evening. He concluded the show with a temperamental skate with futuristic shades.

At the end of the show, all the participants entered the rink. Denis Ten, on behalf of all skaters, thanked the audience, FISU and the Universiade Organizing Committee for the support and the high professional level of the organization.

Marie Lundmark, FISU Technical Delegate for Figure Skating, was extremely pleased. “We had a wonderful tournament at this Winter Universiade. The athletes were of a high level, as was the organisation. Furthermore, the spectators filled the Almaty Arena to the roof each competition day. It was fantastic”, she concluded.
