#WUAlmaty2017: Update Curling – Day 3

ALMATY – Great Britain lead both the women’s and men’s standings after three days of round robin play at the Winter Universiade in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

 

On the women’s side Switzerland are also in joint-first place with four wins and a loss, while GBs men’s team are the only team still on a 100% record.

 

Below the Brits, in the men’s field, things are completely even, with eight of the ten teams all on a two-from-four record. In the women’s and men’s standings Kazakhstan’s teams are the only ones yet to record a victory.

 

On Wednesday, Great Britain men beat Sweden, 8-3, while there were also wins for Norway (7-2 v Czech Republic), Japan (7-3 v Kazakhstan), Russia (6-5 v Korea) and USA men, who won a North American battle, 6-4 v Canada.

 

In Wednesday’s morning session Korea’s women’s drew for one in the tenth end to beat Pacific-Asia rivals China, 9-8, while a score of two points for Great Britain in the tenth end saw them beat Switzerland 6-5.

 

Sweden women had two wins on Wednesday, first against Germany 12-8 and then against Korea 6-5. Canada women beat Russia 7-4 on Wednesday morning, but lost to Great Britain 9-5 in the evening. Russia went on to beat hosts Kazakhstan 14-1 during the evening games.
