More #IDUS2016 Celebrations around the World

LAUSANNE – To celebrate the ‘International Day of University Sport’ in Israel, the ASA Executive Members and the National Union of Israeli Students (NUIS) Board gathered in Tel-Hai College which is the Northernmost Academic institute in the Upper Galilee. The meeting was a combination of Sport and work. All participants started with a short session of Pilates on a balcony with a great view to the Upper Galilee. After the work session, ASA and NUIS presented a new development plan for Israeli Student Sport: ASA and the NUIS will fund a Sports Coordinator for every Academic institute in order to develop sport and health at every institute that decides to join the programme. Both organizations will also monitor the programme together.

 

The Korean University Sports Board and the City of Gwangju, Korea held a celebration to commemorate the #IDUS2016 and the 1st anniversary of successful Summer Universiade at the Universiade Main Stadium. Under the title “Thank you. Together for the Future,” around 30,000 people who participated at the games as athletes, volunteers, and supporters and citizens of Gwangju came together to remember and continue the values of the university sports the Universiade had taught them a year ago. It was a moment to recognize the living legacy of University Sport the Universiade had brought upon Gwangju and Korea.

In Brazil, as part of the activities to commemorate #IDUS2016, CBDU, the Brazilian University Sports Confederation, hosted the University Sports Soccer League, in Palmas-TO, which brought together 350 athletes from all around the country. The competition, which is a regular CBDU calendar event, featured special activities in reference to the ‘International Day of University Sport’.

In celebration of the #IDUS2016, students at the Imperial College in London, UK who started their programme with the Business School in September, were invited to a softball tournament on Tuesday 20 September.
