More #IDUS2016 Celebrations around the World

LAUSANNE – To celebrate the ‘International Day of University Sport’, the Students Sports Association of Montenegro, in cooperation with the general sponsor Lustica Bay organized a day trip to the peninsula Lustica, which included golf, hiking and visiting the Moric Family’s olive grove, the first and only one in Montenegro that has been certified as organic for both production of olives and olive oil.

In Poland, in celebration of the #IDUS2016, Krakow AZS organized two events. The first was the University Cooper Test consisting of 12 minutes of continuous running. The purpose of the test is to determine the maximum aerobic capacity, which is an indicator of physical condition. The youngest participant of the test was just 3, the oldest participant 88 years old. At the stadium appeared students, doctoral students, researchers, families with children to spend their free time with sport. Many attractions – especially for children – assured by the Information Promotion Department of the Jagiellonian University, which organized the playground for children as well as a point for measuring pressure and body fat. All was supervised by specialists who interpreted the results. The other event was the Jubilee celebration of the 40th anniversary of KS AZS AWF Krakow sport club – one of the best clubs in the Malopolska region, whose athletes won medals at international sport events and represented Poland at the Olympics (in 2016 – 4 athletes). A rowing championship was hosted and attended by nearly 40 clubs from all over Poland. The competition was attended by nearly 300 participants including many Olympians from Rio.

In Lebanon, the Notre Dame University and the Lebanese American University celebrated the ‘International Day of University Sport’ with a wide variety of activities such as Badminton, Tennis Foot, Juggling, Fitness circuit, Aikido show, Rope jump, Push up, Cheerleading and Zumba dance to name a few. Moreover, the celebration of university sports will be ongoing during the course of the semester with a series of lectures relating to different topics of interest to the student population (anti-doping, gender equality, leadership etc.).

 

In Cuba, the #IDUS was declared an official activity by the Ministry of Higher Education for the universities in the country. Throughout the island many activities were staged like futsal, Tai Chi, softball, volleyball and basketball to name a few.
