21 September 2016

YEKATERINBURG – On 20 September, FISU President Oleg Matytsin arrived in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg to celebrate the first ever International Day of University Sports. There, Ural Federal University, one of the top Russian higher education institutions, is having a whole set of festivities. From 20 to 23 September, more than 2,000 students from Russia and other BRICS countries, who arrived to take part at the ‘Students BRICS Games-2016’ will compete in Football, Checkmates, 3×3 Basketball, Futsal and Table tennis.

Greeting the participants, Mr Matytsin said: “University Sport helps to raise the leaders of tomorrow. We should direct more attention of the rectors’ community to the ‘education through sport’ principle. Today, we are here at the Ural Federal University to celebrate the International Day of University Sports where the BRICS Students’ Forum takes place. I find it symbolic that we celebrate this day at the University, which is located in the Ural region, at the very borderline between Europe and Asia.”
