Naples 2019 SU OC Delegation visit FISU HQ to sign Attribution Contract

17 June 2016

LAUSANNE – Today, 17 June, a delegation of the Naples 2019 SU Organising Committee comprised of Fulvio Bonavitacola, Vice President of Region Campania; Lorenzo Lentini, CUSI President; Antonio Dima, CUSI Secretary General and Almerina Bove, lawyer from Region Campania visited the FISU HQ in Lausanne to meet its President Oleg Matytsin and Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond and to sign the Attribution Contract for the 30th Summer Universiade in 2019.

FISU President Oleg Matytsin: “Following the attribution dated 29 May, we are very glad now to move a step forward to sign the official attribution contract of the event. As mentioned previously, the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples will be a fantastic opportunity for FISU, CUSI and Italy to celebrate the 70th anniversary of FISU and the 60th anniversary of the first Universiade which was organised in Turin in 1959. I think all parties have well understood our challenges and opportunities in hosting the event, and this is why we have already discussed and developed a very detailed retro plan from now on until the end of 2017 to ensure the smooth foundation of the Organising Committee and the Universiade preparation. FISU is convinced that, with the full involvement of the Campania Region and the great support of CUSI, the 2019 Summer Universiade will be a fantastic project for the young generations, the local community and the entire country.”

FISU SG/CEO Eric Saintrond: During the past months, we have been reached by many candidate cities on the hosting of the 2019 Summer Universiade. Taking into consideration the 70th anniversary of FISU and the 60th anniversary of the Universiade, we believe it is now perfect timing to return to Europe, and we are very glad to have Naples as the host city for the 2019 Summer Universiade. For the other candidates, we are sure that they would be interested to go for the next editions, and right away after this attribution, we will work closely with those potential cities to carry on the Universiade flame and to promote the university sport movements all over the world.”
