IFAF President on 1st WUC American Football: A Start of Something Big

6 May 2014

IFAF President Tommy Wiking

UPPSALA IFAF President Tommy Wiking is convinced the inaugural WUC in Uppsala is of great importance and that it will be interesting to see the development of American Football.

This is the first ever World University Championship in American Football. What is the importance of the championship?

“It is of great importance. This is the beginning of something big and the start of this championship looks very promising.”

What are your thoughts about the participating countries?

“Team Mexico and Team Japan provide a lot of experience to the championship which is very valuable to the other teams and the sport as well. To see how Team China is developing makes me very excited and the future of American football in China is very interesting. For Team Sweden and Team Finland this is a great opportunity to share the experience of the other teams.”

Any other comments so far?

“I think the following games will be more even than the scores of the opening games. As I said before, there is great difference of experience among the teams. However it is an amazing opportunity for all participating countries to learn from each other.”
