FISU CSU successfully completes Inspection of Gwangju 2015 Universiade

GWANGJU – FISU’s Summer Universiade Supervision Committee completed its inspection of the preparations being made in Gwangju for the upcoming 28th Summer Universiade in 2015.

The CSU is a committee that inspects the preparations being made for the Universiade and reports to the FISU Executive Committee, and the delegates on this inspection consisted of the CSU Chair, Kemal Tamer, the FISU Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond, and other CSU members. Also, 4 members of the FISU Secretariat accompanied the CSU members to help with the inspection activities.

For the first two days of their visit, the delegates visited 16 different venues that will be used for the Universiade, located in Gwangju and nearby areas. They also had the opportunity to look around the construction site for the Athletes’ Village as well as the proposed location of the International Broadcasting Center.

During the venue inspections, the CSU members were delivered reports on the progress of various facilities needed for the operation of the Universiade, such as the restaurant, broadcasting facilities, and medical facilities.

The convenience of the athletes was emphasized to the organizers of the Universiade to take into consideration, especially in accreditation, accommodation, catering and medical services.

After the visits to the venues and facilities, OC presentation and reports followed, focusing on general areas such as organization, catering, protocol, international relations, and other necessary functions needed for the smooth operation of the Universiade. Also, meetings with specified functional areas were also held to discuss detailed content.

The FISU delegates made many positive recommendations based on experiences from past events and showed their eagerness to work cooperatively with the Gwangju OC towards a successful Summer Universiade.

Meanwhile, the delegates from the Taipei Organizing Committee, including the Deputy Secretary-General Kuo-Ann Wu, followed the inspection as observers and took in the needed knowledge to prepare for the 29th Summer Universiade in 2017.

Following this inspection, the FISU Steering Committee will be held for 2 days from the 14th, whereas the FISU Forum will be held from the 17th to the 22nd of March, with CDSU meetings also being held within the week.
