FISU Universiade Supervision Committee visits Gwangju for Inspection

GWANGJU – FISU’s Universiade Supervision Committee (CSU) will be conducting a thorough inspection of the preparations being made for the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade from 11 to the 13 March. This visit is the first inspection conducted by the CSU since the establishment of the Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee(GUOC).

The FISU CSU is composed of experts in the fields of games management, competition facilities and athletes’ village and consists of:

            – Kemal Tamer, Chair of CSU and FISU Assessor;

            – Hisato Igarashi, Vice-Chair of CSU and FISU Assessor;

            – Kenny Chow, member of CSU and FISU Assessor;

            – Eric Saintrond, FISU Secretary-General/CEO;

            – John Warnock, CSU member and CTI-SU Chair;

            – Shen Zhen, Technical Advisor for Athletes’ Village.

Starting with the pre-venue inspection to 12 sports venues today, the CSU will inspect 5 more venues and receive reports on preparations being made in regards to games management on 11 March. On 12 March, 8 areas including accreditation, accommodation, catering, and culture events will be inspected while 9 more fields will be covered on the last day, including publication, security, and doping.

The 2017 Taipei Universiade Organizing Committee has sent 7 delegates, including the Deputy Secretary General, Kuo-Ann Wu, to attend all of the meetings, as observers.

With only 15 months left until the Universiade, the members of GUOC are regarding this inspection as an opportunity to revisit future plans and prepare thoroughly for a successful Universiade.

Meanwhile, the FISU Steering Committee meeting will be held for two days on the 14th and 15th, whereas the FISU Forum will be held from the 17th to the 22nd. The FISU Forum will be attended by more than 250 participants from 70 nations and during the Forum, meetings of the Committee for Education Services, Committee for the Development of University Sport, and Gender Equality Committee will also be held.
