GWANGJU – The 2015 Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee (GUOC 2015) carried out its expansion through its third-phase reorganization.

With the 2015 Summer Universiade only 1 year and 5 months away, the GUOC went under a full-scale transformation to enter into its practical operative stage, covering the broad spectrum of various functions needed for games operation.

The organization will consist of 20 departments within 7 divisions increasing from its existing 4 divisions and 10 departments, all being under the direction of 1 secretary-general. The number of staff has also increased by 190, totaling in 370 members working in preparation for a successful competition.

Newly established divisions include Support Division (supporting all games operations), Facilities Operations Division (operation and management of athletes’ village and TIMS), Cultural Events Division (production of cultural events in line with Gwangju’s cultural background), and Marketing and International Affairs Division (strengthening marketing and international communication).

The 10 new departments include the security sector, in line with safety control enhancement for a successful international event, as well as the Human resources & volunteer department to recruit and care for the volunteers of the global event. Other departments also include media, sports coordination, athletes’ village, opening and closing ceremonies, international affairs, and more.

Meanwhile, along with the re-organization, the GUOC has moved its headquarters to a new office. It is now located in the center of Gwangju city, where many young university students gather together and is expected to increase the interest and active participation of youths for the upcoming Gwangju Universiade.
