BRUSSELS After a busy working week, the first session of the Bid Evaluation Committee to select the hosts for the 2016 World University Championships ended Friday 11 October at Château de la Solitude, the FIDSU headquarters in Brussels.

With the presence of delegates from more than 20 countries representing more than 30 applications in total, more than 30 World University Championships for 2016 will be proposed for approval by the FISU Executive Committee at its next meeting in November.

For this first edition of the newly implemented procedure, the Evaluation Committee was composed of Leonz Eder, FISU Vice-President and Chair of the FISU International Technical Committee for WUC; Luciano Cabral, FISU Vice-President and Vice-Chair ITC-WUC; Aitor Canibe Sanchez, Vice-Chair ITC-WUC and Paulo Ferreira, Director of World University Championships.

The Committee was able to assess presentations from four continents – no applications were received from Africa -, a high number both in terms of quality in content and form.

The attribution of the 2016 WUCs, which will be held at the same time as for the 2019 Universiades (8 & 9 November 2013), will without doubt launch a 2016 WUC campaign which will be very high in terms of quality and comfort level of organization.
