3rd FECUNDE University Swimming Tournament

More than 50 swimmers from the UCR, UNA and U-TEC America met in the tournament

COSTA RICA – The organization of the 3rd edition of FECUNDE’s University Swimming Tournament was a complete success, with the representatives of the National University (UNA) landing the overall first place, for men’s and women’s teams while the event’s host, the University of Costa Rica (UCR), occupied the second place in both branches.

With the support of the Costa Rican University Sports Federation (FECUNDE), more than 50 swimmers gathered representing various universities such as UCR, UNA, the Technological Institute of Costa Rica (TEC) and the Universidad Latina de Costa Rica (Ulatina).

At the Opening Ceremony, Manuel Monge, TEC Sports Coordinator and FECUNDE EC member, swore emphasized the promotion and implementation of university athletics policies developed by FECUNDE and congratulated the swimmers for their participation and efforts.

Representatives of FECUNDE, the Organizing Committee of the UCR and FECONA, emphasized the importance of promoting sports like swimming and sport policies for its development

Gerardo Corrales, Sports, Recreation and Art Programme Director of the UCR and organiser of the tournament, referred to the various activities held by FECUNDE this year, at universities and in various disciplines such as taekwondo and swimming, as well as the upcoming karate-do tournament and handball festival.

The swimming tournament was supported by the Costa Rican Federation of Swimming Associations (FECONA), represented by its corps of judges and headed by its president Walter Soto, who stressed the monitoring of university swimming by his federation, as a process of developing national competitive swimmers.

FECUNDE is now working on the final details to what will be the participation of Costa Rican university teams in the next Central American and Caribbean University Games organized by Organización Deportiva Universitaria  Centroamericana y del Caribe (ODUCC) to be held in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, from the 23rd to 27th of September, where Costa Rica will participate with a delegation of 150 participants in the disciplines of track & field, futsal, karate-do, taekwondo, table tennis and swimming in men’s and women’s, in addition to football and women’s volleyball.
