Kazan honours first Russian medallists at Universiade

Kazan – The honouring of the first Russian medallists at the 2013 Summer Universiade took place on a Sunday evening in Kazan.

Attending the ceremony on the stage of the Universiade Park will be representatives of three sports: Universiade 3m springboard champion Evgeny Kuznetsov, judoka Zafar Makhmadov, who won silver, coxless four made up of Andrey Stolyarov, Vasiliy Stepanov, Mikhail Belov, Denis Nikiforov and double sculls rowers Anna Yazykova and Natalya Varfolomeyeva, who placed third in the rowing competition, as well as judokas Renat Saidov and Maria Shekerova, reports R-Sport.

“When you add a medal to the country’s collection, the feeling is amazing. You become part of a great event, you become part of history. It’s a wonderful feeling,” said Nikiforov to R-Sport after the ceremony. On Sunday, Russians earned 6 gold, 2 silver and 8 bronze medals.
