FISU President & 1st Vice-President arrive in Kazan

KAZAN Yesterday, June 27th, with 9 days remaining before the start of the 27th Summer Universiade, FISU President Claude-Louis Gallien and 1st Vice-President and President of the Russian Students Sports Union (RSSU) Oleg Matytsin arrived in Kazan.

At the airport, they were met by Kazan 2013 volunteers, who have already taken on their duties. Oleg Matytsin took the FISU President on a short tour of the new airport terminal where the Games participants and guests will arrive very shortly.

The meeting of the FISU Steering Committee will take place on the opening day of the Universiade Village , June 29th. Straight after that, from June 30th to July 1st, there will be a meeting of the FISU Executive Committee. On July 3rd and 4th, the FISU General Assembly will have its biennale meeting. From July 14th to 17th, Kazan will be hosting the FISU Conference, which will look into issues of the development of university sport.

“The bar set by Kazan and Russia is very high,” said Oleg Matytsin. “FISU looks at the upcoming Games as a new spiral in the development of university sport.”

As was reported earlier, the 27th Summer Universiade 2013 will be held from 6 to 17 July. The World University Games in Kazan set records in terms of their uniqueness and preparation. It is going to be one of the most large-scale Universiades ever. Over 12 days, there will be 351 medal events in 27 sports.  Representatives of 162 countries will compete in these Games.
