Uganda’s Minister of Sports heads OC of 2014 WUC Cross-Country

KAMPALA On June 11th, 2013, the State Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Charles Bakabulindi officially launched the joint organizing Committee for the 19th World University Cross Country Championship (WUCC) and 3rd Africa Cross Country Championship (ACC) at Speke Hotel, Kampala.

Hon Bakkabulindi, who is also the President of this organizing Committee, assured the nation that his team shall work hard to achieve the vision of tremendously staging two concurrent events on the African Continent in a spell of one week, i.e. 16th March 2014 at Kololo airstrip for the ACC and 22nd March 2014 at Entebbe Golf Course for the WUCC.

The National University Sports Federation of Uganda (NUSFU) in conjunction with the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) are working together in preparation for these international Cross Country events with a target of promoting Uganda as the destination of international Sports events. More than 100 countries from across the globe are expected to take part in the University event while over 50 countries will be at the continental event.

The President of the NUSFU and FISU Assessor Peninnah Kabenge Aligawesa, confirmed that Uganda is set to host the event and are looking forward to giving the world a true Ugandan experience on and off the cross country course. “We are ready, as confirmed by the report of the FISU inspection team that was in Uganda in March. Teaming up with the Uganda Athletics Federation to prepare for both events can only add value to the arrangements in place. Each of the federations is riding on the others back”, said Peninnah Kabenge.

Bakkabulindi also confirmed the involvement of all the concerned government institutions including the tourism ministry to ensure the events are a great success.
