2013 French University Rugby Finals in Saint-Nazaire

23 May 2013

SAINT NAZAIRE – The traditional finals of the French University Rugby ‘Trophée Société Générale’, took place last Thursday in Saint-Nazaire, in the presence of the President of the FF Sport U Jean-François Sautereau and National Director Vincent Rognon.

Under the leadership of CRSU Nantes and its director Bertrand Gautier, the great festival of university rugby went smoothly, thanks to strong support from the club and the city of Saint-Nazaire, the Territorial Committee for Rugby of the Loire region, the General Council of Loire-Atlantique and DRJSCS.

In total, six shields were awarded to the winners of the day. In the category Women’s Elite, the University of Rennes won a new title by dominating the Paul Sabatier University of Toulouse (34-17). However, UPS Toulouse took revenge in the grand finale of the day, beating the University of Lyon 1 (19-10) in the category Men’s Elite. The “purple” Toulousians thus offered themselves a nice ‘re-peat’ after their title won in 2012 in Balma. The derby between the two INSA schools, Lyon and Toulouse again, turned to the advantage of Toulouse, marking a 15-12 on the scoreboard. Finally in National 2, the University of Pau Pays de l’Adour beat the University Paris 1 Sorbonne (16-15).

Two other titles were also awarded that day: in the Oval U competition (open to teams made up with a maximum of 5 FFR licensed players (M or W), Sciences Po Paris prevailed among the Women’s teams and the University Lyon 3 in the men’s category.
