2017 SU Organising Committee established

TAIPEI CITY – The Organising Committee for the 2017 Universiade, which is being held in the Taipei City, Chinese Taipei, has been established by the highest authorities of the host city and government.

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin claimed it marked an important milestone for the island, which was awarded the 29th edition of the Summer Universiade in November 2011. 

The launch of the Committee was attended by several leading sports officials, including Chinese Taipei Basketball Association chief Ting Shou-chung.

The 2017 Summer Universiade will be the biggest sports event to be held in Chinese Taipei, Mayor Hau said.

The Committee will serve as the Taipei City Government’s liaison with the FISU.

Mayor Hau has been named chairman of the Committee, which consists of central Government officials, county and city chiefs, heads of the Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation, as well as various experts.

The 2017 Summer Universiade is due to be held over the course of 12 days, and will feature more than12,000 athletes and team members from some 160 countries.

The event will feature 17 sports and will be held in venues across Taipei, Keelung, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu.
