The Universiade flag represents a white canvas bearing the logo, the words ‘Universiade Kazan 2013’ and also the emblem – a stylised five-colour tulip. These marks were designed during the Kazan 2013 bid campaign and started being associated with the 27th Summer Universiade after Kazan won the bid. The Universiade Village flag is designed in accordance with the Kazan 2013 brandbook requirements; it has the words ‘Kazan 2013 Universiade Village’ on it and also a vector image of the student campus’ buildings.

Azat Kadyrov said: “The state registration of the Universiade flag is an acknowledgement of our project’s importance, its historical significance. We hope that the flag, being one of the main official symbols of the Games, will proudly fly over Kazan, the city where we will host the best Universiade ever.” Farid Abdulganiev also added that the Universiade Village flag, which was designed by the staff of the student campus, will be welcoming all athletes coming in Kazan for the Games: “The Village now can be called a full-fledged population centre which has its own official flag.”
