7 November 2012

GWANGJU – Yesterday, November 6th, 2012, the team competition took place in the Yeomju Gymnasium at the 12th World University Badminton Championship.

The home team KOR made a good fight against SRI in the Group C preliminaries. Especially in the first single and double matches, team KOR scored outstanding points and proved themselves as one of the top Badminton teams of the tournament. In the afternoon match between GBR and SRI, the European giant ruled the court, widening the score gap after each set of game. The two countries, KOR and GBR, who made a great start on the first day of the competition, will compete against each other today, November 7th.

In the Group A preliminaries, CHN won the game against HKG in the second match. In the following game, HKG against RUS, a tight match was unfolded on the ground, but in the mixed doubles, RUS finally topped over HKG. RUS will square off against CHN today.

For the Group B preliminaries, JPN defeated RSA in the singles and doubles matches. RSA sought for a chance for revival in the match against CAN. Unfortunately, after a long seesaw game, they were defeated by CAN in the Women’s Doubles. CAN will now have to confront JPN today.

The Group D preliminaries were the interesting ones. In the match between TPE and ESP the women’s singles went into overtime with a score of 21-23 and 21-15. In the end, ESP lost 25 to 23. Afterwards in the game with POL, ESP put up a good fight going neck-to-neck with POL with a score of 19-21, but unfortunately, they had to take the bitter cup once more. TPE and POL will take the ground to determine the champion.
