Inspection Visit of 2013 WU Ice Hockey Competition Venues

TRENTINO – On the 31st of October 2012, Frederick MEREDITH, Lars KARLSSON, the FISU Technical Delegates for ice hockey and Jiho KIM, Executive Assistant of the Winter Universiade paid a visit to Trentino for an inspection visit of the ice hockey venues.

Sergio Anesi, the President of the Trentino OC warmly welcomed the FISU Technical Delegates and the inspection visit was started from the women’s ice hockey competition venue. One arena will be dedicated for exclusive use for competition and training which will accommodate up to the maximum of eight women’s teams in ice rink Pergine Valsugana. The distance from Trento city to this arena is ten km.

After this inspection visit, the delegates continued their visit to the men’s ice hockey competition venues. There will be two dedicated arenas for exclusive use for the men’s ice hockey tournament. One has a capacity of 4,000 spectators, i.e. ice rink Canazei in Val di Fassa and another ice rink in Cavalese has a capacity of 1,200 spectators. The distance from Trento to the ice rink Canazei is 90 km while the distance between ice rink Cavalese and Trento is 45 km.

All the existing facilities were carefully inspected by the FISU Technical Delegates. This inspection visit was an opportunity for the competition and venue managers in each ice rink to have a first contact with the FISU Technical Delegates. Furthermore, they had a chance to discuss many different aspects in order to make sure the smooth preparations for the 2013 WU Trentino which will take place from 11th to 21st December, 2013.

The 2nd CTI meeting will take place in Trentino next February 2013.
