University Teachers to work as Games-Time Transport Managers

24 October 2012

KAZAN The meeting with potential transport managers for the 27th Summer Universiade took place on Friday, October 19th, at Kazan State Power Engineering University. Simultaneously university teachers were strongly encouraged to contribute to the World University Games as drivers of the Kazan 2013 Fleet.

803 bus drivers and 1,073 drivers of passenger cars will be needed to launch the Kazan 2013 transportation programme. Plus, according to preliminary estimates, there is a strong demand for 173 transport managers. The decision to employ teachers of higher education institutions as transport managers is not random as the major part of the 20,000 volunteer army (15,000 of which are citizens of the Republic of Tatarstan) are students. The teamwork of a teacher-manager and student-volunteers is likely to be the most efficient one. Besides, teachers and graduate students have needed qualification and skills to process and use massive flows of information.

Another good reason for cooperation with the educational community is the fact that the 2013 Summer Universiade will take place in the period of summer holidays which gives a perfect opportunity to spend part of the vacation on a paid employment. Representatives of the Kazan 2013 transport team informed, that they will continue recruitment activities in other higher education institutions as well, the next target audience is Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering. As we have reported earlier, the decision to hire teaching staff of Kazan’s higher education institutions as temporary employees for the 2013 Summer Universiade was publicly stated on Wednesday, October 17th, during the meeting of the coordination meeting for educational work under the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Tatarstan.
