4th WUC Shooting Sport – Day 3

KAZANToday is Day 3 of the 4th World University Sport Shooting Championship, another test event in the lead up to the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan.

The Sviyaga Shooting Complex and Shooting Range Complex in Mirny Township are two major competition venues where Pistol and Rifle shooters and Trap and Skeet shooters embarked on quest for medals two days earlier. 

Trap medal events all ended on Day 2 of the championship and Skeet competitions started today, September 7th. The men had three stages of qualification (75 targets), and so did the women. The six best female athletes will compete for the individual tournament medals in the finals in the afternoon.

Pistol and Rifle shooters continued competing in the 50m Rapid Fire Pistol and Rifle events. 

Russia‘s Rifle Shooters earn Two Golds

Team Russia added two gold medals to the country’s medal collection on Day 3 of the 4th World University Sport Shooting Championship. Russia’s Nazar LUGINETS topped the podium finishing first in the men’s 50m Rifle final. LUGINETS scored 1,272.8 points, while Henri JUNGHANEL (GER) managed 1,263.0 to take silver. Bronze went to Tomasz BARTNIK of Poland (1,262.1).

Team Russia also mounted onto the top spot in the team standings. Andrey KONKOV, Nazar LUGINETS, Sergey KAMENSKIY reached a total score of 3,479 points. South Korea is second (3,449), and Mongolia is third (3,419).

Korea‘s Kim wins Rapid Fire Pistol Finals to earn Title  

South Korean athlete Jun Hong KIM won the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol final. He gained 29 point in the finals, outscoring French shooter Boris ARTAUD (27) and Italian Riccardo MAZZETTI (22). Russian shooter Andrey SHCHEPETKOV who had been fifth ahead of the final, managed to move up to the fourth place only. The 4th World University Sport Shooting Championship will be held in Kazan from September 4th to 9th. Shooters will compete in Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Rapid Fire Pistol at distances of 10, 25 and 50 metres.

France wins Rapid Fire Pistol Team Gold

Boris ARTAUD, Clement BESSAGUET and Thomas DELACOURT of France won the gold medal in the men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event. The French shooters topped the podium with a total score of 1,712. South Korea got silver with 1,698 points. The Russian national team had the third best place, but Alexander ALIFIRENKO failed the cartridge test. Both ALIFIRENKO and the team were disqualified.

Russian Women’s Skeet Team wins Gold

The Russian national team (Albina SHAKIROVA, Nadezhda KONOVALOVA and Natalia VINOGRADOVA) won the gold medal. The Russians took the lead after the first stage and won the team tournament. Albina SHKIROVA added 68 points to the total score, Nadezhda KONOVALOVA and Natalia VINOGRADOVA gained 65 and 63 points respectively. In total they hit 196 clay disks and earned the first place. The Polish team (Agnieszka SIERACKA, Aleksandra JARMOLINSKA, Natalia SZAMREJ) had a total score of 176 points, but that was not enough to keep the second place. The athletes from Kazakhstan had occupied the third place after the two stages of the tournament, but they still had a chance to win silver and they did it thanks to Angelina MICHSHUK’s good performance. She hit 22 clay disks at the final stage. The team of Kazakhstan gained a total of 186 points and won silver.
