6 September 2012

KAZAN – The 12th World University Rowing Championship will be held from September 7th to 9th, 2012 at the Rowing Centre in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. Since the rowing event will take place right after the London 2012 Olympics, it is set to attract the planet’s top student-rowers.

The FISU single sport event will serve as a test event for Kazan, host city of the 27th Summer Universiade in 2013. Rowing is included in the Kazan Universiade programme as an optional sport. The competitions will take place in the Rowing Centre, one of the most up-to-date rowing venues in Europe which was erected specially for the Universiade and was commissioned this year. Located on Middle Kaban Lake, the centre spans a total area of 174,300 square metres (with the exception of the lake surface area). The stands boast the seating capacity of 3,000 spectators: stationary stands may accommodate 1,200 people, but the design of the Rowing Centre envisages increase in the seating capacity by 1,800 people.

The expected quantity of participants is about 400 athletes in seven men’s and 5 women’s events.

The event can be followed via the OC website.
