9th WUC Archery Closes

CÓRDOBA – The 9th World University Archery Championship that has taken place in Cordoba has reached its end with a brief closing.

The ceremony started with the Spanish Anthem followed by the greetings to all the audience by Mr. José Manuel Roldán Nogueras, Dean of the University of Córdoba, and Hassan Chikh, FISU’S delegate. After that, the FISU Flag was lowered and Mr; Chikh handed a plaque to Mr. Roldán. Finally, the Belgian Benoît de Detaille has received the flag as the representative of Belgium for the next World University Archery Championship, that will take place in Louvain-La-Neuve in 2014.

Overview

With 7 medals (5 gold, 1 silver & 1 bronze), the Koreans dominated the 9th FISU World University Archery Championship that took place in Córdoba, Spain, from July 4th to 7th, 2012. The Koreans are trailed by the Americans with 6 medals (3-2-1) and Chinese Taipei with 4 (0-2-2) and host Spain with 3 medals (0-1-2).

Individual Competitions

Recurve Men’s gold went to Kim Bongman (KOR), leaving the silver for Li Chung-Huan (TPE) and bronze for Elias Cuesta (ESP).

Recurve Women’s gold was won by Park Seayane (KOR). The silver went to her compatriot Jang Eunbin, while the bronze was for Yang Nien-Hsiu (TPE).

Compound Men’s gold was won by Daniel Suter (USA), leaving silver to Francisco Javier Valverde (ESP). The bronze went to Evan Scudner (USA).

Compound Women’s gold went to German Kristina Berger. The silver and bronze went to Trisatan Skarvan (USA) and Pascale Lebecque (FRA) respectively.

Team CompetitionsFISU Flag passed to the next Organizer

In the Mixed Recurve Team competition the gold medal went to Koreans Jang Eunbin and Jin Jaewang. Paula Wyczechowska and Aleksander Michalski (POL) got the silver medal, leaving the bronze for host Spain represented by Helena Fernandez and Antonio Fernandez.

In the Mixed Compound Team competition D. Suter and T. Skarvan (USA) gained the first position followed by the Germans K. Berger and P. Titscher, with the silver medal and M.C. Hernandez de la Garza and G. Alvarado, who gained the bronze medal.

In the Men’s Team Compound competition Italians J. Polidori, A. Leotta and L. Fanti won the gold after beating D. Suter, E. Beaudry y E. Scudner (USA), while Mexicans G. Alvarado, D. Montiel Villanueva and C.A. Rodriguez settled for the bronze.

In the Women’s Team Compound competition, Team USA – T. Skarvan, E. Falconer & K. Nicely – took the gold. Silver went to Team Malaysia – F.N. Mat Salleh, N.H. Al-Madihah Hashim & F.N. Hassan – while bronze went to Korea – Jea-Won Yun, Jieun Oh & Wonyoung Park.

In the Recurve Men’s Team competition, Korea won the gold with Jaewang Jin, Wokkyeong Sung and Bongman Kim. Silver went to Japanese archers Hirokuni Sato, Shota Sugimoto and Shohei Ota. Whereas Chinese Taipei archers Li Chung-Huan, Chiu Yu-Chin and Huang Chun-Hao won the bronze medal.

In the Recurve Women’s Team competition, another gold went to Korea with Jang Eunbin, An Sejin and Park Seayane. Silver went to Yang Nien-Hsiu, Cho Pei-Chin and Lin Hsiao-Ying from Chinese Taipei leaving the bronze for Polish archers Paula Wyczechowska, Karina Lipiarska and Joanna Rzasa.
