21st WUC Handball – Results Day 2

BLUMENAU The round of games this Monday started with the men’s teams from Mexico and Korea facing off. Korea started with leverage and maintained balance throughout the game, bringing victory to the Korean team with 43:21 against Mexico. The top scorer, Park Sucheol, made a difference during the game and scored 7 goals.

In the women’s tournament of the 21st World University Handball Championship, the Czech Rep. achieved an easy victory against Chile and beat their adversary with a score of 49:14, with Klara Cerna as top scorer, scoring 9 goals.

At 16h00 started the men’s game between Kuwait and the Czech Rep. Throughout the game, the Czechs dominated, and are considered favorites in the competition. And with that in account, the result could not be any different: Czech Republic beat Kuwait 49:18.

The women’s game between Poland and Romania was a genuine thriller. Both teams were focused and went through the game toe to toe with many fouls and pauses. But the strength of Team Poland was no match for the technique of the Romanians, who won the match. Final result: Poland 18:24 Romania.

For the last game of the day in the women’s tournament host Brazil faced Uruguay. Unlike the first match, the Brazilian girls won without breaking a sweat, putting a 19:7 on the scoreboard. To Agda Rafaela, top scorer of the game with 9 goals, this game was important to boost the team spirit after watching victory slip away in yesterday’s game against Chile. “This time we prepared and came in strong and level headed”, she evaluated.

The men’s game Chile vs. Turkey was a balanced match, finishing in favor of Turkey, that scored 34 goals against 21.

The game of the day, happened between Chinese Taipei and Brazil, with a lot of handling of the ball. Chinese Taipei started ahead pushing the Brazilians with a good tally and fast paced gaming. Only in the second half Brazil managed to get ahead achieving victory (35:29). “The game was tough, but we studied the adversary and managed to change the tide”, Guilherme, the Brazilian team captain explaind.

The 21st World University Handball Championship is an event by FISU, the Brazilian University Sports Federation (CBDU) and the Federal Brazilian Government. It is funded by: Blumenau’s FMD, the State, Culture and Tourism Secretariat from the Government of Santa Catarina and is supported by The State Sports Federation and Blumenau’s City Hall.
