2nd Asian University Water Polo Championship: Update

SINGAPORE The 2nd edition of Asian University Water Polo Championship will take place in the National University of Singapore from June 14th to 19th. Initially, both men’s and women’s tournaments will be played. Due to the lack of participation, the women’s tournament was cancelled, but the Chinese women’s team from Chengdu Sports University still made their way to Singapore for this championship. Thanks to the kind arrangement, the Chinese women’s team will play some friendship matches with the local universities.Team Draw

At the beginning, 9 teams confirmed their participation, but Indonesia and Pakistan withdrew their teams. Finally, the 7 teams taking part are from the University Negri Jakarta (INA), Korea National Sports University (KOR), Malaysia, Philippines, Kasetsart University (THA), Nanyang Technology University (SIN) and National University of Singapore (SIN). Because of the reduced numbers, the championship will be played on a single round robin base. The 3rd placed and 4th placed teams from the preliminary round will play in the Bronze Medal playoffs, and the 1st placed and 2nd placed teams from the preliminary round will play in the Gold Medal playoffs.

At 7: 30 a.m., the technical meeting was held and lots were drawn. In accordance with the draw conducted, the host National University of Singapore will play Philippines in the opening match, which will start immediately after the Opening Ceremony to be held at 16: 00 on June 14th. The second match of the day is between Thailand and Malaysia, followed by the Nanyang Technology University versus Korea National Sports University.
