2012 WUC Floorball Update: Day 1 of Competitions

PRAGUE Yesterday, Wednesday May 23rd, the teams (8 male and 4 female) at the 5th World University Floorball Championship in Prague faced-off for the first day of competitions.

As explained by CAUS President Frantisek Dvorak, floorball is the most rapidly developing sport in the Czech Republic. It is a sport enjoyed by young people, and the number of players has been growing dynamically, he said, as well as the performance of the players and teams and also their success in international competitions.

BEL vs. AUTIn the Czech Republic floorball has become an integral element in the sports activities of the university students and has now a place in the program of the national university sports championships. The Czech University Floorball Championship is indeed organized every year under the leadership of the CAUS Floorball Commission and the best university floorball players of this league are participating in this FISU WUC Floorball. The Czech team has already achieved its first international success by winning the silver medal at the 3rd WUC (2008) and bronze at the last edition (2010).

For the preliminary round, the men’s tournament is played in two groups and women’s tournament in one group; each team plays against each other once. The tournaments are taking place in 2 different arenas: Tatran and Sparta Arenas.

The Men’s category is divided in Group A with CZE, FIN, JPN, SVK and Group B with SWE, SUI, AUT, BEL.

In the Women’s category CZE, SWE, FIN, SUI play a round robin.

Japan vs. Slovakia: 2-17 (1-7; 1-5; 0-5)

Switzerland vs. Sweden: 3-4 (2-2; 0-1; 1-1)

Finland vs. Czech Republic: 4-5 (0-1; 1-1; 3-3)

 

Women’s Tournament

Finland vs. Switzerland: 4-2 (3-0; 1-0; 0-2)

Sweden vs. Czech Republic: 9-2 (3-0; 5-1; 1-1)
