23 May 2012

CAUS President DvorakPRAGUE The Opening Ceremony of the 5th edition of the World University Floorball Championship in Prague took place in the afternoon of May 22nd.

All participants gathered in the centre of the city, at the Bethlehem Chapel, for celebrating the opening of this FISU event. This ancient building is nowadays the Ceremonial Hall of the Czech Technical University in Prague, where graduation and concerts are usually held. This Chapel was established by Hanus of Mülheim in 1391.

After hearing the anthem of the Czech Republic and a ceremonial entrance staging of the Czech national flag, an opening speech was made by Daniel Zacek, President of the LOC, who welcomed the FISU Executive Committee member Adam Roczek, thanking the Czech Technical University of Prague, represented at the Betlehem Chapel by Vice-Rector Prof.Jiri Bila and Director of Sport Institute, Associate professor Jiri Drnek.

OC President ZacekAt the end of his speech, Adam Roczek invited the President of the Czech University Sport Association, Frantisek Dvorak to declare the 5th WUC Floorball open.

The FISU anthem ‘Gadeamus Igitur’was marvelously interpreted by the Czech Technical University orchestra, before reaching the part of the oaths of the athletes and referees. It was Milan Tomasik who represented the athletes and Jiri Dolansky the referees.

A simple but fantastic cultural program was performed by the Czech Technical University orchestra before leaving all participants to rest before the start of the competitions on May 23rd.
