Kazan. The second day of this FISU Executive Committee Meeting in Kazan continued today with a lot of topics at the agenda.

Indeed, the FISU EC Members had to listen to the preparation reports of our next Winter and Summer Universiades.

But first they took some moments to look back to the past as they welcomed a delegation from the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, China.

Mr. Guoqiang Huang, Deputy Secretary-General of Shenzhen Municipal Government; Acting Director-General of the Commission for Official Hotels of the Organizing Committee of the Summer Universiade 2011 in Shenzhen together with Mrs Li Luo, Vice Chairman of Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress, Deputy Acting Director-General of the General Office of the Games-time General Operations Headquarters of the Organizing Committee of the Summer Universiade 2011 in Shenzhen presented the final report of the 2011 Universiade Shenzhen. Mr. Huang went in details over all aspects of the 2011 Summer Universiade Organisation.

Zhang Xinsheng, FISU Vice-President, commenting the Final Report of the Shenzhen 2011 UniversiadeMany records were broken during this fantastic Universiade and all the EC Members thanked the OC delegates and made very positive comments, especially, Mr. Zhang Xinsheng, FISU Vice-President. Mr. Zhang underlined the fact that this was the first time that an Organising Committee could benefit from a long preparation period between the attribution and the event itself. During this period, the FISU International Technical Committee and the Universiade Supervision Committee were able to plan a lot of inspection visits and to help the OC in a very constructive cooperation spirit.

Mr. Claude Gallien, FISU President was also very pleased to see that once again, the legacy of this Universiade will fully benefit to the youth of the city of Shenzhen.

As you know Trentino is our new location for the 2013 Winter Universiade after the problems faced with the previous organizers. A delegation from this region came this morning in front of our members in order to present us the Trentino 2013 Universiade project. Sergio Anesi was the first to take the floor. He gave us an overview about the Trento Province itself. Talking about the University was the part of Paolo Bouquet and last but not least, Filippo Bazzanela gave us an exhaustive presentation about the sports venues that will be used during the 2013 Winter Universiade. He gave us also details about the accommodations, visa procedure, security measures, etc…

The CSU and CTI representatives gave us their comments regarding this ambitious project. Mr. Hassan Chikh, FISU Assessor from Algeria thanked the delegates from Italy and took this opportunity to underline the fact that FISU was able to find very quickly an alternative after what happened with the Maribor Organising Committee which was supposed to organise the 2013 Winter Universiade.

Aurelio Urena, President of the Granada 2015 Winter Universiade Organising CommitteeWinter Universiade in Granada was next and Mr. Aurelio Urena, the OC President was of course in Kazan to present all the preparation progress of the 2015 Winter Universiade but also to give us an idea about how his organisation will manage the economic crisis affecting Spain at this moment. The FISU Executive Committee carefully listened to all his explanations and reaffirmed its full support to the OC.

The FISU Executive will nevertheless follow the situation very closely.

On the other hand we can say that thanks to the new structure of the organising committee, the Universiade preparation has now risen to a higher level.

Yoonsuk Kim, Vice Chair and Secretary General of the Organising Committee of the Summer Universiade 2015 in Gwangju, KoreaAfter the internal report from our technical delegates, the delegation from Gwangju took the floor to present us the preparation progress regarding the 2015 Universiade. Among other topics, Mr. Kim was very proud to present us the new logo and mascot . ‘Wings of Light’ and ‘Nuribi’ represent competition, passion and harmony. On the other hand, we can say that the venues and athletes’ village construction process is in full swing. The comments from our delegates who went there last month for a complete inspection visit were very positive.

The delegates from the Winter Universiade 2017 in Almaty

It was the first time that we had the opportunity to listen to the report from the Almaty 2017 Winter Universiade Organising Committee. Let us remind you that the attribution for the 2017 Winter Universiade was held in Brussels in November 2011. That’s why it was so important for the Kazakhstan delegates to give us a complete overview about the way they start working on the Master plan. FISU President Claude-Louis Gallien was very satisfied to see how quickly the OC delegates react and made already all necessary plans for their future work.

They also took this opportunity to present the terms of reference and strategic plan of the Gender Equality Committee for the next period.
