Curling, which has become one of the most popular winter sports, has been starting its Men’s World Championships in Basel this weekend. Roger ROTH (SUI) – CTI Chair and Milan AUGUSTIN (SVK) – Winter Universiade, have been invited as FISU representatives to watch some games and discuss also the upcoming cooperation with the World Curling Federation (WCF). After very nice and fruitful discussions with Mrs.Kate CAITHNESS (GBR) – President of WCF and Colin GRAHAMSLAW (GBR) – Secretary General of WCF. Both have confirmed the future cooperation with FISU for Trentino (ITA) 2013 Winter Universiade, Granada (ESP) 2015 WU and Almaty (KAZ) 2017 WU.

Even more WCF and FISU discussed also the possibilities to improve their close collaboration which is lasting already more than 11 years.

During our talks we felt very familiar and open atmosphere and the will to help on every occasion to organize successful Winter Universiade. We discussed also with Leif OHMAN (SWE) – member of Executive Board of WCF and specialist for preparing the world class curling venue on temporary or permanent basis. Mr. Ohman already helped OC Erzurum 2011 to build permanent curling venue where WCF sees a big legacy in this region and Turkey itself. Mr. Bruno P. SCHALLBERGER (SUI) – Chairman of OC for WCH in Basel explained us very precisely all necessary steps to make events more attractive.

By this way we would like to thank to WCF and their experts for their support and collaboration and wishing them good luck and successful event in Basel.
