2013 SU Update: 5,000 City Volunteers to be trained for Kazan 2013

KAZAN – The Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate was given a unique opportunity to see the 27th Summer Universiade through the eyes of Kazan schoolchildren, as the school stage of the Team 2013 project has come to an end one of these days.

The panel of judges composed of representatives of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and Education Department of the Executive Committee of Kazan visited a number of schools to assess the 2013 Summer Universiade info boards made by schoolchildren that displayed the whole diversity of their talents. The project allowed the entrants to unleash their fantasies; children wrote fairy-tales about Uni the snow leopard kitten and submitted numerous drawings and handicrafts depicting the symbols and the mascot of the upcoming Universiade. All ideas expressed through the use of paint, paper, clay and so on are dedicated to the 2013 Summer Universiade, city of Kazan and sports.

Each school team will be challenged to make a presentation of a Kazan 2013 participating nation that will be assigned to them by drawing of lots in the preliminary stage; the presentations will be held in the regional stage, thus enabling schoolchildren to learn more about cultures of countries set to compete during the 27th Summer Universiade. In addition, the young entrants had a chance to put their language skills to good use while devising exciting guided tours to the 2013 Games venues or tourist attractions in order to introduce visitors to the sports infrastructure and historic heritage of the host city of the 27th World University Summer Games.

The next stage – the regional one – will shortlist successful entrants for the municipal stage where three finalists will be decided.

For reference:the Team 2013 project is implemented by the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate under the Kazan 2013 volunteer selection and training program. Winners of the first two seasons were awarded a once in a lifetime opportunity to apply their volunteer skills at the 2011 Winter Universiade inErzurumand 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen. The third season of the Team 2013 project was held among students of specialized secondary education establishments. The fourth edition of the project is open to schoolchildren and students of technical schools and colleges. An army of 5,000 city volunteers will be built based on the results of Team 2013: Season 4.
